Scanner: An electrical device that convert photographs, slides or negatives into digital form to be manipulated and stored on computers. Scanned images can also be uploaded to an online photo album.

Serial connection: A serial connection allows peripherals such as digital cameras to easily transfer data to the computer via a serial cable. This method of transferring images is slower than using a CompactFlash or Smartmedia card with a PCMCIA Card adapter.

Sharing: Allowing other people to view your photos on the Web. Shutterfly helps you share your online photo albums by sending email notifications of new pictures posted on the Shutterfly site.

Sharpness: The clarity of detail in digital photos

Smoothing: A technique used to make curves smoother in an image by averaging pixels with their neighbors.

Snapbooks™: Snapbooks are spiral-bound collections of your digital prints, presented in a style of your choice, with captions next to your pictures on each page. Snapbooks use the same high-quality photographic paper that we use for our prints.
