Responsibilities:
You’ll help design and implement important infrastructure projects, ranging from deploying 2-factor authentication infrastructure, to forklift upgrading storage and server hardware for production databases to rolling out a new caching infrastructure to improve site performance. You’ll also work on various development projects to automate any and every part of our collective world—one word, “auto-pilot.” There’s also an on-call rotation, because sometimes people are better than silicon.

You’ll interact with many teams including QA, Development, Network and Database Engineers as well as the folks in Finance, Product and Marketing. Because we make Shutterfly run on rails.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Advanced kernel, system, application and storage performance tuning
• Thrive on optimization, performance improvements and a good benchmarking bake off
• Able to converse in Perl and shell, other languages welcome
• Can creatively solve complex problems
• Can make any cross functional project succeed with dogged determinism
• Able to contribute to the antics, shenanigans and rubber band wars
• Advanced storage and SAN experience – FC, SCSI, NFS, FCIP, NDMP etc.
• No really, storage experience is a plus—All Your Disk Are Belong To Shutterfly
• Can figure just about anything out under pressure
• All the big Veritas product suites—Storage Foundation, NetBackup
• A self starter and highly motivated individual is required
• Paid experience working in a 24×7 ecommerce website a plus
• Leverages networking principles (L2/L3, STP) to solve complicated problems
• Token list of applications/protocols (or similar) you should have a clue about: Apache, Bind, Java, Nagios, Veritas, Storage Foundation, Tomcat, Cacti, Jira, Sun Cluster, QFS, ZFS, Bonnie, iozone, Netbackup… ok the list goes on, but you get the point
